Summer 2016 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

The end of the summer term has arrived.  We have had a busy time getting transfer documents completed for our school leavers and end of term summative for the remaining children.  Please make sure you have read and signed the evaluations of your child’s progress.

The children leaving us this term to go to BIG school are; Amelia, Arria, Chloe, Christopher, Daisy, Dylan, Ethan, Francesca, Freya, Grace, Indii, Joanna, Joey, Joseph, Katie, Lewis, Lilly, Mackenzie, Max, Maydee, Neveah, Nicholas, Olivia, Ruben, Scarlet, Sebastian, Souchen and Ysobel.  We wish them all the best in their new settings.

I have a number of staff up-dates for you, Kirsty from the Baby Suite has decided to stay home and look after her son so therefore she will not be returning to Pelican after her maternity leave has ended.  Lauren is really excited, looking forward to the birth of her child in October.  Natalie left us in June to work with children who have special educational needs which is an area she wants to progress in.  I would like to welcome Charlie and Lucy who have just started employment with us, they will be working in the nursery and pre-school departments.  They will be introducing themselves as keypersons next term.

You may have been aware of the baby suite closing at the end of this term.  In September, we will be using this department as our nursery for our rising 2 year olds.  Upstairs will be the pre-school which will accommodate our 3-5 year olds.  These changes need to be made to accommodate the sustainability of Pelican.

A polite reminder to all parents whose children stay for the lunch time session, could you please provide a healthy lunch box containing a sandwich or equivalent savoury, plus a piece of fruit and yogurt.  PLEASE LEAVE SWEETS, BISCUITS AND CRISPS FOR TREAT TIMES WITH YOU AT HOME.  PELICAN IS COMMITTED TO ENCORAGING HEALTHY EATING AND CUTTING DOWN THE SUGAR LEVELS THAT CHILDREN EAT.  Pelican is  governed by Early Years and OFSTED to promote healthy eating. If you would like some lunch box meal suggestions staff will only be too happy to help.  Your understanding is appreciated.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDS BAGS, CLOTHES, DRINKS BOTTLES AND LUNCH BOXES ARE LABELLED; this will stop confusion of whose is whose. If we find items that have not been labelled we will be using an indelible marker to write the child’s name with.  Also if you change your address or personal contact details can you let the lead practitioner know so we can update your file.  When your child is sick we need to contact you quickly, if your details are not up to date, this situation can become very stressful for the child and staff.

Could you please discourage toys from home being brought into the centre as some of the children are finding it difficult to share their treasured items, also if the toys are small they can become lost amongst our resources, leaving the child upset as they can’t remember where they have left it.  Your co-operation is appreciated.

May I just remind our new parents not to let other parents or carers into the building.  All parents/carers/visitors must buzz the department they require for verification before being let into the building.  Also once you have collected your child from the department, it is your responsibility to make sure they leave the centre safely. Just a reminder to parents/carers, please don’t leave medicines, e.g. (calpol, bonjela,) in your child’s bag. Please hand them to the leads of the departments to make sure they are stored correctly, and a medical consent form is completed.  Your co-operation is appreciated.

A reminder to ALL parents/carers who drop off and pick up children from the centre, to be TOLERANT AND COURTEOUS at all times.  Bad language, shouting and arguing about parking in the side street and back lane will not be tolerated.  This behaviour is happening in front of your children.  If it escalates the Police will be called!

Just a reminder about funded places.  If your child is approaching 2 years old, you may be entitled to Me2 funding, for more information see the leads for an application form or contact Julie Gray on 01752 307450.

The last day of summer TERM TIME will be Friday 15th July.  FULL TERM will be Friday 12th August.  Tuesday 30th August is the beginning of the Autumn term for FULL TIME children.  Monday 5th September is the beginning of the TERM TIME children.  Please make sure all payments are completed by WEDNESDAY 13th JULY to avoid late payment charges, with it being the end of term.

Due to the increase of the National Minimum Wage and pensions increase the government is putting on us, we have had to make an increase to our hourly rate of just under 3% from £4.43 to £4.55.  This will take effect from the beginning of the Autumn Term.

Nikki is currently completed the billing sheets for the Autumn term making any deduction e.g. bank holidays easily understood with one final payment which can be deducted for term time/full time children. Payments should be made the first day your child attends the centre for that week, you may also pay a month in advance.  If you pay by BACS/Standing order, please use the child’s name as reference.  Any payments made after 9.30 on a Friday WILL NOT BE accounted for until the following week.

The trustees are looking at possibly imposing a weekly charge for late payments on a weekly basis.  Please make sure you pay your weekly fees on the first day your child attends.

Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OUR FAMILIES   Regards Marita Pidgeon  (Centre Manager)
